Coral honeysuckle is a woody, twining vine with beautiful coral red flowers. It produces a first flush of blooms in late spring to early fall and then will continue to flower sporadically until the late summer. The red flowers attract hummingbirds and when planted alongside other hummingbird attracting plants like eastern columbine and bee balm you can keep hummingbirds in your space all season.

While coral honeysuckle will tolerate clay soils, it thrives and will bloom best when planted in well-drained medium-hydrated soil. The amount of sun it gets will also determine how much it flowers. More sun=more flowers. Be sure to keep it evenly watered until it’s established.

Lonicera sempervirens can grow as a climbing vine on a fence or trellis, though it will need some support to start climbing. It can also be used as a ground cover and will trail beautifully down a hillside.
